Novaratri
O Durga Puja, letteralmente 'nove notti di preghiera per la Madre Divina', è il più grande festival Hindu, in cui il Signore è adorato come Madre. Si celebra due volte l'anno: il Rama Novaratri in primavera comincia nella luna nuova di aprile/maggio, il Durga Novaratri in autunno comincia nella luna nuova di settembre/ottobre. L'inizio dell'estate e dell'inverno sono due importanti congiunzioni di influssi climatici e solari: il corpo e la mente sono sottoposti a un cambiamento notevole in armonia con la natura e così sono sacre opportunità per adorare la Madre Divina. La celebrazione commemora la vittoria di Durga sul demone Mahishasura e dura nove giorni in onore delle nove manifestazioni di Durga. Ma per l'aspirante spirituale la divisione del Novaratri in tre periodi di tre giorni delinea le tappe dell'evoluzione dell'uomo dallo stato di individualismo allo stato della realizzazione di Dio. Durante il Novaratri i devoti di Durga osservano un digiuno e compiono dei sacrifici, o offerte personali - rinunciare ad alcuni cibi o bevande o a qualcosa che si è abituati a fare ogni giorno. Si nutrono i brahmini e si offrono preghiere per la protezione della salute e della proprietà. Ci si accosta alla Madre con cuore aperto e franco, semplice come un bambino, uccidendo senza pietà i nemici dell'egoismo, della furbizia, delle negatività, con una totale resa a Lei. Canta le sue lodi, il suo Nome, immergiti nella devozione con fede e lascia che la Madre ti porti passo passo al culmine della scala spirituale per unirti a Dio!

Novaratri, or Durga Pooja, literally 'nine nights of prayer to the Divine Mother' is the greatest Hindu festival in which God is adored as Mother. The festival is observed twice a year: the Rama Novaratri in Spring is celebrated on the new moon of April/May, the Durga Novaratri in Autumn is celebrated on the new moon of September/October. The beginning of summer and winter are two very important junctions of climatic and solar influences, the body and mind undergo a considerable change according to the changes in nature, thus are sacred opportunities to worship the Divine Mother. The celebration is held in commemoration of the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura and lasts nine days in honour of the nine manifestations of Durga. But to the spiritual aspirant the division of Novaratri into sets of three days outlines the stages of the evolution of man from the state of individualisation to the state of God realisation. During Novaratri the devotees of Durga observe a fast and make some sacrifices or personal offerings, such as giving up certain foods or drinks or something you are used to do every day. Brahmins are fed and prayers are offered for the protection of health and property. Approach the Mother with an open heart and frankness, as simple as a child, killing ruthlessly the enemies of egoism, cunnings and negativity, make a total surrender to Her. Sing Her praise, Her Name, plunge in devotion with faith, and let Her take you systematically to the top of the spiritual ladder and unite you with the Lord!
