Dèi e demoni si contendevano kumbha, la coppa che contiene il nettare dell’immortalità. Nell’infuriare della battaglia alcune gocce di nettare caddero sulla Terra: ancora oggi, nella ricorrenza della vittoria degli Dèi, ogni 12 anni si compie un pellegrinaggio, Yatra, per bagnarsi nelle acque colme di nettare e conquistare l’immortalità. Santi e asceti, mendicanti e famiglie di comuni mortali si riuniscono a milioni per il bagno nei giorni propizi del Kumbha Mela, in un pacifico un delirio dove la fede raggiunge il culmine.
Gods and demons fought for kumbha, the vessel containing the nectar of immortality. In the battle some drops of nectar fell down on Earth: still now, to celebrate the victory of Gods, every 12 years a pilgrimage, Yatra, is performed to take bath in the waters full of nectar and conquer immortality. Millions of Saints and ascetics, beggars and families of ordinary mortals gather for the bath on the auspicious days of Kumbha Mela, in a peaceful delirium where faith reaches its climax.
