Shivaratri

Il Signore, nella sua manifestazione come Vishnu, è apparso
come Krishna a Gokulam a mezzanotte. Shivaratri cade
esattamente 180 giorni dopo Gokulashtami. Anche Shiva
appare a mezzanotte. Così il cerchio di un anno è diviso in
due da questi due giorni di buon auspicio: Shiva e Vishnu
sono due aspetti dell'Uno, il Signore che ci protegge tutto
l'anno. In questo giorno bisogna digiunare, vegliare e
adorare Shiva a mezzanotte almeno con una foglia
dell'albero Bilva. Un detto popolare recita che nessun cane
intelligente toccherà cibo il giorno di Shivaratri. Si
racconta anche di un cacciatore, che per sfuggire a una
tigre si arrampicò su un albero, e per non addormentarsi e
cadere, cominciò a staccare una ad una le sue foglie
buttandole giù. Quello era un albero Bilva, e le foglie
cadevano su uno Shiva Lingam installato ai suoi piedi.
Persino per questo atto di adorazione non intenzionale il
cacciatore ricevette le benedizioni di Shiva.
Si celebra Shivaratri all'Ashram di Vapi con la famiglia
internazionale dei devoti di Babaji.

The Lord, in his manifestation as Vishnu, appeared as
Krishna in Gokulam at midnight. Shivaratri occurs exactly
180 days after Gokulashtami. Shiva too appears at midnight.
Thus, the circle of one year is divided in two by these two
auspicious days: Shiva and Vishnu are two aspects of the
One, the Lord who protects us all through the year. In this
day you should fast, stay awake and worship Shiva at
midnight at least with a leaf of the Bilva tree. A legend
goes that no intelligent dog will touch his food on
Shivaratri. It is also said that a hunter pursued by a
tiger climbed up the nearest tree. Lest he should fall
asleep and tumble down the tree, he plucked the leaves one
by one and threw them down. It so happened that the tree
was a Bilva tree and the leaves fell one by one on top of
the Shiva Lingam installed under the tree. Even for this
act of unintentional worship, the Lord blessed the hunter.
Shivaratri is celebrated at the Vapi Ashram with the
international family of devotees of Babaji.
